Mid-summer is the perfect time to take stock of your garden and give it a little TLC. Whether your lawn is looking tired, your borders need a refresh, or your planters need topping up, here's your practical checklist for a garden that looks great right through to autumn.
1. Feed Your Lawn
If your lawn has gone yellow or patchy — or if moss has crept in over the wetter months — now is the time to act. MO Bacter Organic Lawn Fertiliser is one of our bestselling products for good reason. It's an RHS-endorsed organic fertiliser that feeds your lawn while naturally breaking down moss — no raking required. Simply apply and let it work.
For larger lawns, the MO Bacter 10kg or 20kg options offer great value, covering up to 100m² and 200m² respectively. Prefer a liquid feed? Try Mo Bacter Instant 2L for a fast-acting boost.
2. Refresh Your Planters
Summer heat can dry out compost quickly. Check your planters regularly and water deeply rather than little and often — this encourages roots to grow downward. If your compost has shrunk, top it up and add a layer of decorative stones on top to slow evaporation.
If you're looking to add new planters to your display, our Olive Planter range is a customer favourite — elegant, durable, and available in a range of sizes.
3. Mulch Your Borders
If you haven't mulched yet this year, it's not too late. Applying Strulch organic straw mulch now will help retain moisture through the driest weeks and keep weeds at bay. It also gives borders a neat, finished appearance.
4. Tidy Edges and Paths
A well-edged border makes the whole garden look more cared-for. Consider lining paths or gravel areas with decorative stones — they're low maintenance, weed-suppressing, and add real visual appeal.
5. Plan for Autumn
It sounds early, but summer is the ideal time to think about autumn planting. Bulbs, perennials, and shrubs planted in September and October establish well before winter. Make a note of any gaps in your borders now, while you can see them clearly.
