Melcourt Horticultural Coarse Grit – Washed & Lime-Free (20kg) is a purpose-built drainage solution for gardeners who won’t settle for soggy soil. This UK-sourced, coarse grit is washed to remove fines and is deliberately lime-free, making it ideal for acid-loving plants while still boosting overall soil structure and aeration.
Why this grit stands out
- Washed & Lime-Free: Free from lime to protect pH-sensitive plants, while the washing process ensures a clean, consistent particle profile that won’t lock up with dust or fines.
- Improves Drainage and Soil Structure: Creates air pockets in heavy soils, reduces compaction, and promotes healthier root growth by letting roots access oxygen and water where they need it most.
- UK-Sourced Coarse Grit: A locally produced, durable option that’s designed to stand up to repeated use in garden beds and containers.
- Generous 20kg Bag: A practical, long-lasting supply for both large plots and busy container displays.
- Versatile Application: Perfect for clay-heavy soils, mixes into compost to enhance drainage, alpine rock gardens, cacti and succulents, and as an attractive top dressing for pots and containers.
Smart uses for better gardening outcomes
- Clay soil makeover: Incorporate Melcourt Horticultural Coarse Grit into beds to dramatically reduce waterlogging and improve root exploration for a wider range of plants.
- Potting and containers: Mix into potting soil to improve drainage for alpines, cacti, and succulents, or layer as a top dressing to maintain a crisp, well-drained surface.
- Specialist plant care: Because it’s lime-free, it supports acid-loving species that require consistently lower pH levels, helping them establish healthier root systems.
Who benefits most
- Home gardeners dealing with heavy, clay soils seeking reliable drainage improvements.
- Container gardeners growing alpines, cacti, and succulents who need a stable, free-draining mix.
- Professionals creating raised beds or display borders where consistent drainage and pH-sensitive planting are priorities.
Practical tips for best results
For soil improvement, blend Melcourt Horticultural Coarse Grit into the topsoil or compost to reduce compaction and encourage robust rooting. When using as a top dressing, spread a thin, even layer over pots and containers to maintain surface drainage and reduce surface crusting after watering. Its lime-free composition helps keep pH-sensitive plants happy, while the washed gritty texture preserves a clean appearance in mixed plantings or decorative displays.
Choose Melcourt Horticultural Coarse Grit – Washed & Lime-Free (20kg) for a durable, UK-sourced solution that enhances drainage, supports healthy root growth, and elevates the performance of acid-loving plants and succulents alike.
